These are the criteria for a piece of interactive fiction to be considered a “modern visual novel”.

#1: Reading of text is the primary user action.

#2: Obstacles may branch but never halt or reverse the user’s progress.

#3: Rules 1 and 2 may, in exceptional cases, be broken if doing so provides clear narrative intent.

As in all creative work, TABLEAUX THEORY intends to explore and report to those who consume. However, the area in which we wish to explore is different from most interactive media companies, opting for mechanical poetry and high quality meme diffusion over fidelity.

In order to focus on these elements while still providing high quality in all areas of interactive media, we invoke the contraint of the timeless resolution of “640x360”.
