Little Loves

The overarching feel of my work can be very intense. I know there is serious spiritual disarray throughout the world right now. It is a “Tower of Babel” building era. Honestly the past hundred+ years has been part of this era. We’re just, I believe, towards the end of it.

Regardless, I do believe this level of intensity that I portray is necessary. However, I also believe that along this intense journey, we need to take moments to truly bask in “little loves”.

What Dale Cooper says in this clip is so important. In particular, it is so important if you are an intense person, like he is. If your mission is everything to you, sometimes you forget that you are human, and you do need little rewards. It is essential for longevity.

And like Dale Cooper, I quite like to take a moment and truly enjoy a cup of black coffee. It is certainly my favorite of all of these little gifts. But I drink coffee basically all day, every day… So it is more like sustenance than a little love. This won’t do!

In order for it to be a “little love”, like I am calling it, it must be out of the ordinary. It can’t be expected or the status quo. Otherwise it does not have its power.

Black coffee can still be a gift. But it needs more special context. Perhaps taking a moment to simply sit there and drink it rather than multi-tasking. This would be a “little love”.

Yesterday, I saw some candles at a store for $5, smelled them, and realized they were absolutely wonderful. I love a good fall candle, and that’s what these were. I picked one up, and this morning I am reaping the benefits. “Autumn harvest”, what a wonderful scent.

My other “little loves” include:

  • A prayer walk.
  • A small gaming session.
  • Browsing around stores.
  • The occasional fast food meal (though this is becoming less fun as I age).
  • A long drive.
  • Calling a parent.
  • A coffee chat with a friend.
  • Hot chocolate

There are many more that pop up, but these are some of my favorites.
